The Bus Route Post Type

The bus route post type can be found in the left side menu in the backend of Wordpress. It will be in the section labeled "Route Information." Typically, the majority of the information in this section will be populated using the GTFS File.

If you need to correct or add information, please follow these steps.

  1. The page builder section
    1. At the top of the page, you will see a section called "Page Builder." This will allow you to enter in a longer description or additional information about the route.
  2. The custom fields
    1. Custom fields are used to add information about the route.
    2. The "About" Tab
      1. Route Number, Route Name, Route ID, Service Spam, First Trip of the Day, Last Trip of the Day, AM Peak, P< Peak, Trips per Day, Hex colors for route and text, route overview
      2. Use these sections to correct information that is either missing or incorrect
      3. This connect directly to the GTFS File.
        1. If the Route Number and/or the Route ID is incorrect, it will not connect to the GTFS File and therefore will not display the actual route information on the front end.

    3. The "Files" Tab
      1. This is where you will store documents and schedules pertraining to this specific route.
      2. You can change the KML/KMZ file here as well as upload the Downloadable Schedules.
      3. Currently Lat and Long are not connected to the code. So, any information populated there will not be added to the site until they are properly connected.

    4. The "Stops" Tab
      1. Allows you to customize the inboard and outbound information
      2. At this time, outbound stops and inbound stops are not connected. Instead, this information is pulling directly from the GTFS File. This second could be used to rename some of the routes but it would need to be properly connected first.
  3. Route Types
    1. Although there are none listed at this time, this is a way to categorize the routes for your users.
    2. Create route types and then assign those types to each route.

  4. Popular Destinations
    1. This section is another category for your users. You can add in popular destinations and you can connect them to specific routes.
    2. You can add in new destinations at any time and then your users will be able to search by popular destination.

To Add a New Route:

  • Click on "Add New Bus Route" in the top left corner.
    • You can add in all the information but it will not begin to show anything on the maps until the GTFS has also been updated. The Bus Routes post type looks directly to the GTFS File to get information.
